Baby Murder Shock: Parents Charged Over Death of 10-Month-Old Jacob

Tragic Death in Derbyshire

A 10-month-old baby, Jacob Crouch, has died, with his mother and stepfather now facing murder charges.

On the morning of December 30, 2020, police were called to a home in Linton, near Swadlincote, after reports that baby Jacob was “critically ill.”

Tragically, Jacob was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mother and Stepfather Arrested

Jacob’s mother, 32-year-old Gemma Barton from Heanor, and stepfather, 38-year-old Craig Crouch of Linton, were arrested shortly after.

Both were initially released on bail on January 5, 2021, but were formally charged with murder on January 1.

Next Steps in Court

Gemma Barton and Craig Crouch remain in custody and appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The case is now moving forward as police continue their investigation into baby Jacob’s death.
