Armed Cop Faces Dangerous Driving Charge Over Streatham Knife Attack Response
Specialist Firearms Officer in Court Over 2020 Chase
PC Paul Fisher, a specialist firearms officer, has been charged with dangerous driving linked to the dramatic knife attack on Streatham High Road in February 2020. Fisher raced to the scene responding to reports of a knife assault by Islamic extremist Sudesh Amman, who was wearing a fake suicide vest before being shot dead by armed police.
Speeding at 90mph, Driving on Wrong Side of Road
According to prosecutors, Fisher sped from Gipsy Hill station to the attack site at up to 90mph. He allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road and narrowly missed hitting several vehicles. His unmarked police car reportedly smashed into a residential property on Streatham Common North and just missed a pedestrian during the high-speed journey.
“The Crown say the combination of high speeds and failure to anticipate the road and road users ahead, fell well below the standards of a reasonably competent and careful driver,” said prosecutor Alejandra Tascon.
Not Guilty Plea, Trial Set for September
The collisions caused two other drivers to pass out at the scene. Fisher pleaded not guilty during his initial court appearance and has demanded a trial by judge and jury. The case was adjourned until 19 September at Isleworth Crown Court.
A Surrey resident from Whyteleafe, Fisher is part of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Firearms Command. He was granted unconditional bail and released following the hearing.
