Recycling Bin Collections Slashed to Fortnightly in RBG
Residents in Royal Borough of Greenwich (RBG) face a shock hit to recycling services as blue-top bin collections drop to once every two weeks—starting immediately.
Driver Shortage Blamed for Bin Delays
RBG slammed a nationwide shortage of HGV drivers for the disruption. The council admitted it’s struggling to fill vacancies, leaving rubbish rounds seriously understaffed.
“We are significantly short-staffed due to a number of HGV driver vacancies,” the council said. “We’re working hard to fill these posts but the national shortage is proving challenging.”
Confusing Changes Ahead
Adding to the mess, RBG recently announced big changes to black-top general waste bins for next year. They say the fortnightly recycling pick-ups will help during preparations for that switch.
The council urged residents to keep extra recycling at home until it fits into bins, ensure it’s clean and dry, or use bring sites and the Reuse and Recycling Centre.
“We ask for your understanding at this challenging time and hope to be back on track as quickly as possible,” said RBG.
Residents Left in the Lurch
Curiously, the announcement was quietly posted only on RBG’s website—no formal media statement or comment from council leaders. Frustrated locals say the lack of communication has added to confusion over bin collections.
