The 45-year-old guy was riding his bicycle down Chester Road with his dog on a leash when he was hit by a car as he passed the pedestrian crossing close to Pype Hayes Park, opposite the Marshbrook Road intersection.
The driver of the car originally halted at the scene before continuing on Eachelhurst Road.
The biker sustained major head injuries and was sent to the hospital, where he is now in critical condition.
We believe the driver originally halted at the scene before speeding off, leaving the rider gravely injured in the road,” said Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes of the serious collision investigation unit.
“A number of additional cars, as well as members of the public, came to the cyclist’s rescue.” Some of these individuals may have been present when the driver was still present. I would ask anyone who was present to contact me. You may have information that is critical to our inquiry.
“I’d also advise the driver to do the right thing and call me or my team.”
