Save up to £2,000 on Childcare This Year!
Families can slash their childcare bills by up to £2,000 annually, just in time for the October half-term and regular school-term wraparound care, warns HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
Last June alone, over 391,000 families pocketed a whopping £41.6 million in Tax-Free Childcare top-ups. HMRC urges thousands more not to miss out on saving up to £500 every three months—or £1,000 if their child has a disability.
How Tax-Free Childcare Works
- Families pay money into an online Tax-Free Childcare account.
- The government tops up 20% automatically—so for every £8 you pay in, you get £2 extra free.
- Funds can be used for holiday clubs, before and after-school clubs, nurseries, childminders, and more approved childcare.
- Available for kids up to 11 years old, or 17 if your child has a disability.
Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC’s Director General for Customer Services, said: “Tax-Free Childcare can make a big difference to families, helping with the bills for things like holiday clubs, nurseries, childminders and after school clubs. It’s easy to register – search ‘Tax-Free Childcare’ on GOV.UK.”
Flexible, Hassle-Free Savings
Tax-Free Childcare accounts can be opened anytime, used straight away, topped up whenever you want, and unused money can be withdrawn at any time. This gives families total control over their childcare spending.
More than one million UK families qualify for some form of government childcare support. The government is urging all eligible households to claim their entitlement and ease the cost crunch.
