Drug-Drive Disaster: Speeding Junkie Crashes, Flees and Gets Jail
Hit-and-Run Horror in Norton
Jordan Peter Hobson, 27, tore through Norton on 12 June 2022 with two teens in his backseat. The Riverside View man was driving a stolen Toyota Corolla without a licence, insurance, and under the influence of cannabis and cocaine. Reckless speeding sent him crashing into the Brambling Fields roundabout—then he ran off, leaving his injured passengers trapped inside.
Passengers Injured, Driver on the Run
Despite the crash, the two teens managed to escape and were helped by passing strangers. Hobson? He went on the lam, hiding in nearby undergrowth. But police tracked him down with a helicopter and hauled him in. Blood tests revealed he was over twice the legal cannabis limit and thrice the cocaine limit.
Justice Served: Jail and Driving Ban
In August at Scarborough Magistrates Court, Hobson pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, drug driving, and driving without a licence or insurance. Last Friday, York Crown Court hit him with a 12-month jail sentence and banned him from driving for three and a half years.
TC Mark Patterson said: “Every decision Hobson took that day was wrong. He drove a car he wasn’t allowed to, under the influence, with young passengers aboard. Then he ran off instead of helping. The state of the car after the crash shows how lucky everyone was not to be seriously hurt.”
“Our job is to keep roads safe. This sentence sends a clear message – drug driving ends badly. Think twice before you risk lives.”
