Heathrow & Manchester Hit by Massive Luggage Chaos
British Airways passengers arriving at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 face nightmare luggage waits of up to 90 minutes and even two hours. On Tuesday, travellers were warned to brace for long delays after bags piled up in the baggage halls. Some were told to leave the airport and wait days for their suitcases – delivered straight to their homes instead.
Passengers Left Bagged and Bored
Queues snaked around Terminal 5 as luggage belts sat idle and abandoned. Frustrated passengers even resorted to sitting on discarded bags or lying on the floor as boredom and exhaustion set in. Meanwhile, the British Airways customer service desk was mysteriously closed, leaving stranded travellers without answers.
“We were told at 10:30pm to head home and wait for our bags to arrive,” one outraged passenger said. “Filing claims means a lengthy wait to be reunited with your luggage – some are looking at nearly a two-week wait.”
Some lucky fliers stuck it out and got their bags in about an hour, but many were less fortunate.
Staff Shortages Slam Airports Again
This chaos echoes incidents back in March, when lack of baggage handlers sparked similar delays. One traveller recalled having to leave their bags behind, filing claims, and receiving emergency cash for essentials – including a new outfit for an important London event.
Heathrow isn’t alone. Manchester Airport also faced luggage nightmares, blaming Swissport for undersupplying staff. Passengers reported waits over 90 minutes to reclaim their bags at Manchester too.
With nearly a year since normal travel resumed, these delays raise serious questions about whether staff shortages will ever be resolved – especially ahead of Christmas and the World Cup frenzy.
