East London Flat Blaze Sends One to Hospital

A major fire tore through a top-floor flat in Walthamstow, East London, this afternoon, sparking a massive emergency response. One person was rushed to hospital after being treated at the scene.

Massive Fire Crews Battle Flames

At 11.58am on November 9, eight fire engines and 60 firefighters stormed Gosport Road to battle the blaze. Flames ripped through the third floor of a four-story building, heavily damaging two flats and completely destroying another flat and the roof above.

Before firefighters arrived, around ten residents had fled the building. The London Fire Brigade rescued two people from the property and initially reported no injuries, but the London Ambulance Service soon confirmed one person was hospitalised.

Emergency Services on High Alert

The London Ambulance Service said:

We dispatched an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). We treated one person on the spot before transporting them to hospital.”

The fire was declared out at 1.28pm, but crews remained on the scene for hours afterwards to secure the area. So far, the cause of the fire is unknown.

A spokesman for the Met Police revealed officers were called at 12:05pm to tackle the fire alongside the London Fire Brigade. No injuries were initially reported.

However, an off-duty officer detained a man under section 136 of the Mental Health Act during the incident. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
