Police Investigating Hoax Devices Found in Portrush – UKNIP

Police from the Serious Crime Branch is currently investigating two hoax devices that were discovered outside homes in the Hopefield Avenue area of Portrush. The objects, wrapped in Pride flags, were reported to the police on Thursday, June 29.

Upon receiving the call, a comprehensive public safety operation was immediately launched. The Army Technical Officer (ATO) carried out a series of controlled explosions. The alerts came to an end on Friday, June 30, at approximately 4.30pm

Detective Chief Inspector Hamilton emphasized the disruption caused by the placement of these hoax devices. Local residents had to evacuate their homes to ensure their safety while the area was thoroughly examined. He condemned the actions of those responsible, highlighting their disregard for the impact on the community and the fear they instilled.

The investigation into this incident is now underway, and authorities are appealing for information from the public. Detective Chief Inspector Hamilton urged anyone with information or potential footage from the area of Hopefield Avenue to contact the police by calling 101. The incident number to reference is 1829 of June 29, 2023.
