Police have launched an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred on Malton Street in Burngreave. At approximately 10.11pm on Sunday, July 2nd, officers responded to reports of a 42-year-old man who had sustained serious injuries. According to the police, the victim had exited his vehicle on Malton Street when he was shot in the leg in what appears to be a targeted attack.
The injured man was promptly taken to the hospital, where he is believed to be facing life-changing injuries. Detective Inspector Chris Ronayne, the Senior Investigating Officer, stated that extensive inquiries are currently being conducted in the Burngreave area. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed anything suspicious between 21.00 and 23.00 BST on Malton Street to come forward with information.
In addition, the police are seeking the assistance of individuals who may have seen an orange Mini Cooper in the vicinity during the same time period or possess relevant dashcam footage. Notably, a Mini Cooper matching the description was discovered on fire at approximately 10.59pm in a wooded area off Grimesthorpe Road. Investigators believe it may be linked to the incident.
Acknowledging the concerns within the local community, Detective Inspector Ronayne assured the public that additional officers would be deployed in the area to provide reassurance.
