Rising talents Max Jones and Kiimi have achieved an extraordinary milestone by claiming the top spot in Radio 1 Dance and BBC Introducing’s nationwide DJ talent search. The dynamic duo will have the opportunity of a lifetime to perform on the iconic island of Ibiza as they kick off Radio 1’s Dance Weekend on Friday, July 28th at 528 Ibiza. Their exceptional skills and unique musicality have earned them a place alongside renowned artists such as Chase & Status, Becky Hill, MK, and Patrick Topping, forming an incredible lineup.
Max Jones, a 24-year-old DJ and producer hailing from Middlesbrough, is known for his captivating sets that bridge the gap between underground sounds and classic hits. His performances exude high energy, combining technical expertise and a wide range of musical variations. Max has already played at numerous events and festivals across Europe and had the honour of supporting prominent DJ Hannah Wants during her 2022 UK and Ireland tour. Overwhelmed with joy, Max expressed his gratitude and acknowledged the immense honour of being selected for this prestigious opportunity.
London-based Kiimi, a producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, has captured the attention of the Radio 1 Dance community with their distinct sound. As a classically trained musician, Kiimi has entered the electronic music scene by infusing customary practices with a fresh and unique approach to dance music. They have also made their mark as the founder of “Hunni Sound,” an online network providing a platform for women, non-binary individuals, and trans creatives in music and sound production. Kiimi, still in disbelief, shared their excitement and immense gratitude for the chance to not only visit Ibiza for the first time but also perform in the dreamlike setting.
Jaguar, the esteemed DJ and presenter, will host a special show on BBC Introducing Dance tonight at 10pm, featuring tracks from both Max Jones and Kiimi.
The entries to Radio 1 Dance and BBC Introducing’s talent search underwent careful consideration by BBC Music Introducing’s network of local and regional shows. Each show forwarded one entry to the final shortlist, and a panel of Radio 1 DJs and producers ultimately selected Max Jones and Kiimi as the deserving winners.
