Life Behind Bars for Arson Horror Killer
Jamie Barrow, 31, has been handed a life sentence after murdering Fatoumatta Hydara and her two young daughters in a brutal arson attack. The tragic blaze tore through their Nottingham flat on November 20 last year, leaving the community in shock.
Cold-Blooded Killer Set Fire to Family Home
During a tense three-week trial at Nottingham Crown Court, Barrow was found guilty of deliberately pouring petrol through his neighbour’s letterbox and igniting the flat. Prosecutors revealed Barrow’s brutal motive was driven by rage, and he callously abandoned the scene as the family screamed for help.
In a chilling twist, Barrow even contacted Nottingham City Council to ask about compensation for smoke damage to his belongings in a nearby flat — showing a shocking lack of remorse.
Tragic Toll: Mother and Two Children Dead
- 3-year-old Fatimeh and 1-year-old Naeemah died instantly in the flames.
- 28-year-old Fatoumatta Hydara succumbed to smoke inhalation two days later.
Judge Slams Killer’s ‘Dark, Angry Mindset’
Mrs Justice Tipples, presiding over the case, acknowledged Barrow’s troubled mental state and heavy alcohol intake but made clear this did not cloud his judgement. “You were very angry, but it is only you who knows why you did this,” she told him sternly.
The judge confirmed Barrow fully intended to kill Fatoumatta and her children, sentencing him to a minimum of 44 years before parole consideration.
Family’s Heartbreak and Fury
Outside court, family and friends broke down as they mourned their devastating loss. Husband and father Aboubacarr Drammeh, who was in America at the time, described the unimaginable pain of identifying the bodies on his 40th birthday. He called Barrow “a coward” who had caused irreparable harm.
“Barrow’s actions were utterly heartless and cruel. Our family will bear this trauma for generations.”
The courtroom was silent as Mr Drammeh recounted holding his wife and daughters’ hands, expressing his wish to trade places with them.
