Teen Stabs Teacher in Shocking School Attack
A 15-year-old boy has been charged after stabbing a teacher in Tewkesbury School, Gloucestershire. The teenager, whose identity cannot be revealed, faced Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning. He pleaded not guilty to malicious wounding with intent but admitted carrying a bladed article on school grounds.
Court Drama as Case Set to Stay in Youth Court
The teenager only confirmed his details during the hearing, with his parents present. Prosecutor Sadie Waits pushed to move the case to crown court, calling it “a little unusual in the way the offence has been carried out.” But District Judge Nicholas Wattam rejected the request, keeping the trial in youth court for now.
A new hearing is fixed for July 21, where a trial date is expected. Meanwhile, the accused remains in secure custody.
Teacher Attacked in School Corridor
Math teacher Jamie Sansom was stabbed once in a school corridor. He was rushed to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but has since been discharged and is recovering well.
Schools on Lockdown After Attack
In response, Tewkesbury School went into lockdown, and neighbouring Tirlebrook Primary School boosted security on police advice. Gloucestershire Police Assistant Chief Constable Richard Ocone praised the quick action that kept students and staff safe.
Police continue to investigate the incident. The Tewkesbury School community is providing support to those affected and working closely with authorities to ensure safety moving forward.
