Rapist Shane Nash Caught Red-Handed on Patrol
Shane Nash, 39, was caught in a marked police patrol car while strolling with friends along Muirfield Road, Top Valley, on 31 January. Just two days earlier, he had raped a teenage girl after snatching her in a dark alley near Rise Park and threatening her.
Distinctive Walk and Clothes Blow His Cover
CCTV captured parts of the attack, and footage was widely circulated in a high-profile media appeal. One officer immediately recognized Nash’s distinctive walking style and broad, square shoulders after reviewing the footage the day before.
Spotting his clothing closely matched the suspect’s, the officer and a colleague swiftly pulled Nash over. He was wearing the same clothes and unique grey trainers seen during the attack.
Damning Evidence Found in Search of His Bag
Officers found more incriminating items in Nash’s bag, including a black beanie hat and red sleeping bag mentioned by the victim. Formerly from Boniface Gardens, Bestwood, Nash was arrested on suspicion of rape but vehemently denied all allegations—even when confronted with DNA evidence directly linking him to the crime.
Life Sentence for Nash After Guilty Plea
It wasn’t until his March court hearing that Nash finally pleaded guilty to one count of rape and one of attempted rape. Today, he was jailed for life, with a minimum term of 15 years and placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.
“This was a horrific crime that shocked and appalled the local community,” said Detective Inspector Craig Hall of Nottinghamshire Police.
“The victim was simply walking home when she was attacked. She’s traumatised, and this will have a lasting impact on her and her family.”
