Crook Log Leisure Centre in Bexleyheath has been evacuated following a chemical spill incident. Firefighters have been at the scene since they received the call at just before 10am on Tuesday morning 18th July 2023.
Crews have been called after a smell of chemicals was detected inside the leisure centre located on Brampton Road. Approximately 60 people were forced to leave the premises as a precautionary measure. The specific chemicals involved in the spill have not been confirmed but are understood to be Chlorine Gas that has escaped from within the plant room.
Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service have also been sent to the incident.
Two fire engines and two fire rescue units were dispatched to the leisure centre, and the incident is still ongoing. Firefighters wearing hazmat suits entered the building to assess the level of contamination and determine if there are any elevated chemical readings.
Crook Log Leisure Centre has issued a statement to its customers, informing them of the closure until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances. The centre expressed apologies for any inconvenience caused and assured customers that they would be updated once further information becomes available.
