Four people were taken to the hospital following a dinghy capsizing incident in Argyll and Bute. The Oban RNLI received an alert about the incident near the Isle of Lismore on Saturday evening, shortly before 7:30 PM.
A passing yacht spotted the upturned dinghy and individuals in the water, promptly raising the alarm. The yacht deployed its own inflatable boat and managed to rescue one person from Loch Linnhe and three others from nearby rocks. The workboat Lady Heather also provided assistance during the rescue operation.
The lifeboat Mora Edith MacDonald arrived at the scene to further aid in the rescue efforts. Additionally, the Rescue 199 helicopter from Prestwick arrived to offer support, with a paramedic being winched down to assess the condition of the group. After determining that they were fit to travel, the casualties were transported to Oban by lifeboat.
Upon reaching the shore, the four individuals were handed over to the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and taken to Lorne and Islands Hospital for further medical attention.
Oban RNLI coxswain David Isaac expressed gratitude to all those who provided assistance during the rescue operation, including the crew of the yacht, the Lady Heather, the team aboard Rescue 199, the Oban Coastguard Rescue Team, and the Scottish Ambulance Service.
In a comment on the Oban RNLI’s Facebook post about the incident, one of the rescued individuals expressed their appreciation to all the services involved, acknowledging that their lives were saved thanks to their prompt response. The individual also highlighted the importance of wearing life jackets and the lessons learned from the incident.
