Dramatic Brighton Pier Rescue as Search Launched for Missing Person
A major emergency search kicked off early this morning (22 July) after reports of a person potentially jumping into the sea from Brighton Pier. A crack team including Newhaven Coastguard, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter, Brighton RNLI, and Sussex Police launched an intensive operation along the pier and nearby waters.
RNLI Pulls Person from Water – But It’s Not the Missing Individual
The RNLI spotted someone struggling in the water and swiftly hauled them to safety. The rescued individual was given immediate care by the Coastguard team and rushed to SECAMB for medical attention. However, it soon emerged this was not the missing person the teams had been hunting.
Missing Person Found at Dukes Mound After Falling From Promenade
The search pressed on between Brighton Marina and Brighton Pier. Eventually, the missing individual was located near Dukes Mound, having fallen from the promenade.
Shoreham Coastguard confirmed: “SECAMB on scene and gave casualty care. It was established that the individual was the casualty that teams had been tasked to. Casualty taken to hospital. All assets stood down and returned to stations.”
