Bradford Man Blocks Safety Camera Van, Faces Vehicle Seizure Threat

A 67-year-old tipper truck driver in Bradford has been slapped with a conditional caution after deliberately blocking a safety camera van. If he repeats the stunt, he risks losing his vehicle.

Deliberate Obstruction Caught on Camera

Last Friday (14 July), police were carrying out speed enforcement in Bradford’s Thornton area when the man parked his truck and raised its tipper bed to block the camera operator’s view. He was interviewed under caution on Thursday, 20 July, and admitted deliberately obstructing a policing support officer on duty.

Police Warn Speeders and Obstructors

“Dangerous and inappropriate speed continues to cause crashes that result in avoidable deaths and serious injury,” said Paul Jeffrey, Head of Prosecutions and Casualty Prevention. “A driver chose to stop and obstruct lawful enforcement of speed limits. Wilfully obstructing a safety camera operator is a criminal offence and will be investigated.”

“Our staff work to keep roads safe. Speeders risk causing tragedy or prosecution. We urge all drivers to stick to limits and drive carefully,” he added.

Tough Conditions to Avoid Vehicle Seizure

The driver received a conditional caution forbidding him from parking within 20 metres of any mobile speed camera or obstructing their view again. He must also delete social media posts related to this or other offences. Additionally, he was issued a Section 59 Notice under the Police Reform Act, warning that a repeat offence could see his truck seized.

West Yorkshire Police enforce speed limits across the region using fixed and mobile cameras for the Safety Camera Partnership.
