Stranded Kite Sparks Shoreham Lifeboat Launch
On Sunday afternoon, the Shoreham RNLI inshore lifeboat was scrambled after the Coastguard spotted a kite drifting dangerously in the choppy waters south of Widewater, Lancing. The kite had been whipped away by fierce winds, heading straight for Shoreham Harbour.
Kitesurfer Safe, But Kite Lost at Sea
Luckily, the kitesurfer made it safely to shore but couldn’t retrieve their rogue kite. That’s when the lifeboat crew swung into action.
Heroic Teamwork Nets a Happy Ending
Shoreham National Coastwatch Institution chipped in, tracking the kite’s stubborn location from the shore. With their help, the lifeboat crew swooped in and successfully reclaimed the kite. It was returned safely to the lifeboat station before being collected by the grateful owner.
