The Imprisonment Of A Man For Modern Slavery And Prostitution-related Offences Has Prompted An Appeal From Detectives At A Leeds-based Team

Anghel Iordache was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison earlier this month at Leeds Crown Court.

Lordache, 49, of Harehills, was sentenced following an investigation that began in March of this year when police responded to a request for a welfare check at an address in the city.

Following Iordache’s arrest, the investigation resulted in the implementation of safeguarding measures for two women who were discovered there.

Leeds Child Vulnerable to Exploitation Team (CVET) detectives believe Iordache may have trafficked other women into the country for sexual exploitation and are urging anyone who believes they were a victim to contact them.

Al Cheyne, a detective inspector, stated:

“I hope that this outcome gives people the confidence to report activity that could be linked to modern slavery to the police, so that we can take action with partners against those who are involved in this heinous practise.”

“We would like to use this opportunity, now that Iordache is in prison for an extended period of time, to appeal to women who believe he trafficked them into the country.”

Anyone coming forward should feel confident that they will be supported by our specially trained officers, who work in collaboration with other agencies to thoroughly and discreetly investigate these matters in order to bring perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
