Fatal Police Shooting in Streatham Hill: Man Identified as Chris Kaba

Investigators from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) are scrambling to piece together the facts after a police shooting in Kirkstall Gardens, Streatham Hill, on Monday 5 September.

The victim has been named as 24-year-old Chris Kaba from Wembley. Today, IOPC officials met with his family to provide a progress update and explain the ongoing investigation. They promise to keep the family informed as the case develops.

How the Incident Unfolded

The IOPC revealed police in an armed response vehicle tried to stop Mr Kaba’s car after an automatic number plate recognition camera linked it to a recent firearms incident. Around 10 p.m., as officers attempted to contain the vehicle, a single shot was fired by a police officer.

Emergency teams gave Mr Kaba CPR on the scene before rushing him to hospital, but he sadly died later that night.

No Firearm Found, But Questions Remain

Last night, officers searched the scene and found no firearm linked to anyone other than police. Mr Kaba’s vehicle and the police cars involved were taken for forensic examination.

Regional Director Sal Naseem stressed the complexity of the probe. “We understand community concerns and know questions will remain about how this tragic shooting happened,” he said. “We are working hard to uncover all the facts, but it will take time.”

Call for Witnesses

The IOPC is urging anyone with information to come forward. “We’ve visited nearby homes but believe there are still witnesses to speak with,” Naseem said.
