Thousands Rally in London After Police Shooting of 24-Year-Old Kaba

London erupted this week as thousands marched demanding justice for 24-year-old Chris Kaba, who was fatally shot by a Metropolitan Police officer during an attempted arrest in South London. The single bullet that killed Kaba has triggered outrage across the city.

Homicide Probe Underway as Family Cries Foul

Police quickly launched a homicide investigation covering both murder and manslaughter after the shooting. The Met confirmed the probe, as Kaba’s family expressed devastation, claiming race played a role in his death.

“They believe he would still be alive if he had been white,” sources say. Fueled by grief and fury, Kaba’s family organised a major march on Saturday, September 10. The protest started at Parliament Square at midday and ended outside Scotland Yard.

Stormzy Delivers Powerful Speech to Mourning Crowd

Rap star Stormzy took to the stage in a stirring speech, urging stamina for the fight ahead. “It’s not about me,” he said. “It’s about us, the family, and everyone who is grieving.”

“What happens is that we do this once and get tired of it. We get tired of tweeting. We do it for a week, two weeks, and a month, and they know we get tired of it.”

“I just encourage everyone, in whatever capacity they can, to do whatever they can to help. But they must also have the stamina to continue because they have murdered someone.”

Stormzy reminded the crowd that Kaba “could’ve been your brother, your uncle, or your nephew” and appealed for unity and love among protesters. His speech was met with thunderous applause outside Scotland Yard.

What Happened? Police Pursuit Ends in Tragedy

Kaba was shot after a police chase triggered by an automatic number plate reader flagging the car in connection to a firearms investigation. Armed officers boxed the vehicle in a narrow street. However, a search found Kaba was unarmed.

Paramedics tried CPR at the scene but failed to save him.

Mayor Sadiq Khan Calls for Answers

London Mayor Sadiq Khan offered his “heartfelt sympathies” to Kaba’s family, recognising the deep impact on Black Londoners.

“I fully understand the grave concerns and impact Chris’s death has had on Black Londoners across our city—as well as the anger, pain, and fear it has caused, along with the desire for justice and change.”

“I recognise there are many unanswered questions, and I want to reassure all of London’s communities that I will continue to press for answers.”
