PC Sam Grigg, who was previously assigned to the South West Command Unit, pleaded guilty on Thursday, 5 January, at Kingston Crown Court. On Friday, February 10, he will be sentenced.
He was found to have violated the standards of professional behaviour in the area of ‘discreditable conduct’ at an accelerated misconduct hearing on Monday, 30 January.
He was fired without explanation.
Grigg pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an incident that occurred in Twickenham on Friday, 2 December, while he was off-duty.
He used tape to illegally restrain a woman he knew against her will. After restraining her for some time, he cut her free with a knife, injuring her in the process.
Grigg was arrested the same day after the incident was reported to police on Tuesday, December 6.
On Thursday, December 8, he was charged and immediately suspended.
“PC Grigg’s behaviour was totally unacceptable, and I know it will cause concern among members of the public,” said Commander Jon Savell, head of the Met’s professional standards department. He’s let down the Met and his colleagues who are dedicated to keeping Londoners safe.
“We took immediate action to suspend him from duty when his offending came to light and have now removed him from the organisation.
“We are determined to have a Met that the public can trust, with officers that people feel comfortable to approach. We will take action to remove anyone who fails to meet these standards from our organisation.”
Grigg will now be added to the College of Policing’s Barred List. Those on the list are not permitted to work for the police, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
