Hero Firefighter Barry Martin’s Emotional Farewell in Edinburgh
Firefighters paid a final, heartfelt tribute to Barry Martin today as his coffin was carried through Edinburgh on a specially prepared Turntable Ladder. The 38-year-old dad tragically died last Friday after sustaining serious injuries during a massive blaze at the former Jenners building earlier that week.
Beloved Family Man and Dedicated Firefighter
Barry, a proud father-of-two from Rosyth in Fife, leaves behind his loving wife Shelley, 36, and their eight-year-old twin boys, Oliver and Daniel. Shelley described Barry as a remarkable man who was passionate about being a firefighter.
Hundreds Line Edinburgh’s Royal Mile to Honour Fallen Firefighter
Hundreds gathered along the Royal Mile to pay respects as the cortege made its way to St Giles’ Cathedral for the funeral service. Barry’s colleagues from McDonald Road Community Fire Station formed a Guard of Honour, while fellow Blue Watch firefighters carried his coffin in a poignant farewell.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Pays Tribute
Interim Chief Officer Ross Haggart saluted Barry as he entered the Cathedral, saying:
“Barry was hardworking, loyal, and showed unwavering commitment to his family and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Our thoughts are with Shelley, Oliver, Daniel, and all who knew and loved him.”
“Since Barry’s death, we’ve received countless messages of support from around the world. We are devastated by this loss but will ensure Barry’s selfless service is never forgotten.”
