Man Arrested Over Shocking Attempted Murder Attacks in Birmingham and Ealing

Two Attempted Murders Linked

West Midlands Police swooped on Tuesday, 21 March, arresting a man suspected of attempted murder in Birmingham. The arrest follows a joint investigation that linked this incident to a terrifying attack in Ealing where a man was set on fire.

The suspect now faces two counts of attempted murder. Detectives from the Met’s West Area Command are teaming up with West Midlands Police to uncover the full story.

Gruesome Attack in Ealing

On the evening of Monday, 27 February, the Ealing victim was leaving the West London Islamic Centre when the suspect struck. They chatted for five minutes before the attacker doused the man with a liquid believed to be petrol and set him ablaze with a lighter. The suspect then calmly walked away.

The victim was rushed to hospital with severe burns on his face and arms.

Police Urge Community Vigilance

Chief Superintendent Sean Wilson of the Met’s West Area Command said: “We understand the shock this has caused the community. Despite the arrest, we remain vigilant and urge the public to do the same. You will see increased police patrols around Singapore Road in the coming days. Anyone concerned should approach officers.”

Investigation Ongoing with Counter-Terrorism Support

Counter Terrorism Policing is assisting, but officers are keeping an open mind regarding the motive. Police urge anyone with information who hasn’t spoken to them yet to call 101, quoting CAD 6422/27Feb, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
