Tragic Home Discovery: Mother and Sons Found Dead in Belvedere

The bodies of Nadja de Jager, 47, and her sons Alexander, 9, and Maximus, 7, were found on March 9 after police forced their way into the family home in Belvedere.

Post-mortem results revealed the boys were strangled. Their mother is believed to have taken her own life.

Inquest Opens Then Adjourned at Croydon Coroner’s Court

The inquest into the deaths opened on Friday morning but was quickly adjourned after a brief five-minute hearing at Croydon Coroner’s Court.

Detective Inspector Oliver Stride from the Met’s specialist crime command confirmed the boys were found in an upstairs bedroom—Maximus on the bed, Alexander on the floor beside him.

Their father, whose name has not been released, officially identified the bodies.

Schools Pay Tribute to “Model Students” and Best Friends

The boys’ school, Belvedere Infant and Junior School, described Alexander and Maximus as “loving and caring boys with a strong desire to learn.”

“Alex and Max were truly wonderful members of our school community and will be sorely missed by students and staff alike. They will live on in our hearts at Belvedere,” a spokesperson said.

“Both were model students, and it was clear they were best friends.”

Police Close Investigation, Await Full Inquest

The Metropolitan Police announced there are no suspects or persons of interest apart from those involved.

Senior Coroner Sarah Ormond-Walshe said, “There is a police investigation in relation to all three deaths.” The inquest is expected to conclude within six months before deciding if a full hearing is required.
