Man Trapped as Plane Crashes at Upminster Airfield
A harrowing scene unfolded at Upminster’s Damyns Hall Aerodrome today when a light aircraft crashed shortly after take-off. Emergency crews scrambled to the site just after midday to rescue the passengers.
Firefighters Battle to Free Man Trapped in Wreckage
At 12:09pm, fire services were alerted and swiftly dispatched six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Hornchurch, Wennington, East Ham, and Dagenham. A woman was pulled from the wreckage and is now receiving treatment on site from London Ambulance Service medics.
Station Commander Jeremy Davies revealed, ‘Firefighters are working with partners to free a man trapped inside a lightweight aircraft near the aerodrome.’ The crews are still fighting to free the man trapped inside the plane.
Both Victims Suffer Minor Injuries
Police confirmed the man and woman, who were both onboard during the crash, suffered minor injuries including broken ankles. Neither victim’s injuries are life-threatening or life-altering.
A Met Police spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 12.12pm to reports of a light aircraft crash on Aveley Road, Upminster. We, along with LAS, attended the scene. Both passengers were apprehended and are receiving medical attention.’
Incident Casts Shadow Over Local Flying Community
