Blazing Start to Saturday: Fire Hits Riverside Shopping Centre
Chaos erupted early Saturday as flames broke out at the Riverside Shopping Centre on Bexley Road. Shortly after 6 a.m., four fire engines and around 30 firefighters were scrambled to tackle the blaze.
Smouldering Cable Sparks Blaze in Subway Unit
Security staff at the scene quickly alerted the London Fire Brigade after spotting the fire at the Subway unit. Firefighters launched a swift response, deploying a Command unit alongside the fire engines to douse the flames.
Quick Action Stops Fire Spreading
Using two hose reels, crews worked rapidly to contain the fire, preventing it from ripping through neighbouring shops. Despite their efforts, part of the retail unit was severely damaged.
Investigation Underway, Residents Evacuated
Specialists from the LFB fire investigation team are on-site probing the cause of the blaze, with early reports suggesting a smouldering cable may have triggered the fire. Nearby residents were evacuated due to heavy smoke, but thankfully no injuries have been reported.
