Illegal Pigeon Medicines Busted at Belfast Depot

South African pigeon medicines destined for Northern Ireland have been seized by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA).

Package Intercepted at Belfast Courier Hub

A courier company at a Belfast depot flagged a suspicious parcel arriving from South Africa. The package was addressed to Londonderry but contained illegal veterinary medicines, which raised red flags.

Unlicensed Drugs Confiscated

DAERA officers detained and seized the following unauthorised products:

  • 33 tubs of Medpet 4in1 Powder (100g) for pigeons and cage birds
  • 22 tubs of Canker Combo (100g) for pigeons
  • 22 tubs of Trimethoprim/Sulpha Powder (100g) for pigeons and cage birds
  • 13 tubs of Tylodox (100g) for pigeons

None of these medicines are licensed for use in Great Britain or Northern Ireland. They arrived without any required import certifications.

Seizure Made Under Strict Veterinary Laws

The medicines were confiscated under Regulation 25 of the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013, which prohibits the importation of unauthorised veterinary drugs.

DAERA continues to crack down on illegal imports to protect animal health and public safety.
