Serial Arsonist Omar Omar Jailed for 12 Years After £4.5M Car Dealership Blaze Spree
Revenge Fuels Devastating Fire Attacks
A serial arsonist, Omar Omar, 40, has been slapped with a hefty 12-year prison sentence after torching a Nottinghamshire car dealership repeatedly in a bitter vendetta. Between January and December 2022, Omar targeted the Lowdham Road business, causing millions in damage to vehicles and buildings.
The car wash owner, who ran his own business on the same site as the dealership’s forecourt, set fire to the premises four times. His final attack saw flames rip through the forecourt, destroying dozens of pricey cars up for sale.
£4.5 Million in Damages and Lost Earnings
In one savage blaze on August 7, Omar’s fires engulfed three cars and gutted an office on the lot. The combined cost of repairs and lost revenue from disruptions reached a staggering £4.5 million.
Forensic Evidence Nails Arsonist
Detectives pieced together Omar’s involvement through forensic evidence. His DNA was found on a hammer abandoned at one fire scene. Investigators also discovered a burnt jacket matching CCTV footage evidence hidden at his home in Bramcote.
Initially denying the charges, Omar eventually caved and pleaded guilty to four counts of arson plus one attempted arson on August 10, 2023.
Judge Hands Down Heavy Sentence
At Nottingham Crown Court on September 22, Omar was sentenced to 12 years behind bars for his reckless, revenge-driven attacks.
“Omar’s actions were reckless in the extreme and motivated by revenge and his intention to try and destroy the livelihoods of other business owners he was having issues with,” said Detective Constable Chloe Baugh. “The financial and emotional toll on the victims was huge. We’re relieved he’s been given a substantial sentence.”
