Gunman Found Guilty Of Mistaken Identity Murder: Tragic Case Unfolds

In a harrowing case of mistaken identity, Jervais Boyaram has been found guilty of murdering Muhammed Sohail outside his home in a shocking incident that unfolded on February 18 last year.

The tragic turn of events began at a petrol station on Washwood Heath Road when Boyaram, filling up his Smart car, engaged in a dispute with a group in a silver VW. Misguided by mistaken beliefs, Boyaram later encountered Muhammed Sohail, driving a similar silver VW. Believing Sohail to be connected to the earlier altercation, Boyaram followed him and, upon pulling up alongside Sohail’s car, fatally shot him.

The incident took place outside Sohail’s residence on Wright Road, where desperate attempts by neighbours to save him proved futile.

Detectives, aided by CCTV footage, swiftly identified Boyaram’s Smart car through its registration plate and distinctive features. The car was traced across the city to an address in Yardley, where Boyaram’s family member lived.

On February 28, Boyaram was apprehended at his Chelmsley Wood residence. A search of his address led to the discovery of the hidden Smart car key inside a doorframe, with the car parked nearby.

Yesterday, Coventry Crown Court delivered a guilty verdict against Boyaram, 37, of Birbeck House, Chelmsley Wood, for the murder of Muhammed Sohail. Sentencing is scheduled for Monday.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Barnes described the case as “an horrendous case of mistaken identity” and highlighted Boyaram’s intent to kill, regardless of the misidentification. Sohail’s father expressed the profound loss, emphasising his son’s innocence in the matter.
