Man Jailed for Murder After Fatal Case of Mistaken Identity
A shocking mix-up ended in tragedy when Jervais Boyaram shot dead Muhammed Sohail outside his home last February.
Petrol Station Row Sparks Deadly Chase
It all started at a petrol station on Washwood Heath Road. Boyaram was filling his Smart car when he clashed with a group in a silver VW. Later, spotting Sohail driving a similar silver VW, Boyaram wrongly assumed he was involved in the initial dispute. Acting on this fatal mistake, Boyaram followed Sohail and pulled up alongside his car before opening fire.
Neighbourhood Horror as Victim Dies Outside Home
The shooting happened outside Sohail’s house on Wright Road. Neighbours rushed to help but couldn’t save him.
Clever Detective Work Leads to Arrest
- CCTV footage caught Boyaram’s Smart car, identified by its number plate and features.
- Police traced the vehicle to a Yardley address linked to Boyaram’s family.
- Boyaram was arrested on February 28 at his Chelmsley Wood home.
- Officers found the hidden Smart car key concealed in a doorframe, with the car parked nearby.
Guilty Verdict and Heartbreaking Statements
Yesterday, Coventry Crown Court found Boyaram, 37, of Birbeck House, Chelmsley Wood, guilty of murder. Sentencing is due on Monday.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Barnes called it “an horrendous case of mistaken identity,” stressing that Boyaram intended to kill despite the confusion.
Sohail’s father mourned deeply, insisting his son was innocent in the deadly mix-up.
