Cocaine has been found inside a car after patrolling officers signalled for the driver to stop in Rochester

A police drone helped guide officers to the location of a man suspected to have abandoned his vehicle after driving under the influence of drugs.

Shortly after 10.10pm on Monday 2 October 2023, an officer from the Rural Task Force on patrol in Detling, near Maidstone, spotted a van being driven on the wrong side of the road.

The vehicle did not stop and following a short pursuit was discovered empty on a track located just off Blue Bell Hill.

As officers and a police dog searched the area, a specialist drone operator identified a figure moving within a nearby line of trees and directed his colleagues to the location.

The suspect, aged 27 from Staplehurst, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences including dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving under the influence of drugs.

He was later released on bail pending further enquiries until Wednesday 3 January 2024.
