Manchester Shock: 64-Year-Old Charged Over Sexual Assaults on Elderly Victims
Man Faces Rape and Assault Charges
A 64-year-old man from Manchester, Vijay Chawla, has been charged with two counts of rape and one count of attempted sexual assault involving two elderly victims. The disturbing crimes came to light after a 72-year-old woman reported an attack at a Richmond Grove home on the night of March 17, 2023.
Second Victim Comes Forward
Police acted swiftly, arresting Chawla the same day. He was initially released pending further inquiries. But the case darkened when a 72-year-old man living at the same address came forward on May 20, revealing a similar assault.
Chawla Re-Arrested Ahead of Court Date
On October 2, 2023, Chawla was arrested again on suspicion of rape and attempted sexual assault. He now faces formal charges and is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on November 7, 2023.
