Newcastle United U21s Ready to Roar in Northumberland Senior Cup

Newcastle United under-21s gear up for a high-stakes clash against Newcastle Blue Star in the first round of the Newcastle Flooring Northumberland Senior Cup. The showdown kicks off this Wednesday at Whitley Park, where the young Magpies will test their mettle against Northern League Division Two rivals.

Dylan Stephenson: Magpie Youngster Eyes Cup Glory

Dylan Stephenson, fresh off scoring for the Newcastle first team in their stunning 5-0 thrashing of Al Hilal in Riyadh, is brimming with confidence. The 20-year-old forward from Blyth is buzzing to push the U21 side deep into the cup.

“Everyone is up for this game and it’s one we are looking forward to and want to win. We have drawn our last few games and 1 on penalties against Port Vale, so we are looking to come out on top. As long as we play our own game, I think we will have a good chance of going through,” Stephenson said.

Don’t Underestimate the Underdogs

Stephenson warns the team won’t take Newcastle Blue Star lightly. “We have quality in our squad but need to match the opposition’s physicality,” he said.

With last year’s heartbreak final loss to Blyth Spartans still fresh, the lads are hungry to make amends. Newcastle’s youngsters boast a record 38 cup wins but haven’t lifted the trophy since 2018 — when they beat Morpeth Town 3-1.

“We want to go as far as possible in the competition and even win it. That would be really good for the team. We’re determined, and it would be great to win a piece of silverware this season, both for the team and the club,” Stephenson added.
