A former South Wales police officer has been locked up for life after admitting to a shocking spree of child sex offences. Lewis Edwards, just 24, pleaded guilty to 138 child sex crimes, 22 counts of blackmail, and refusing to hand over electronic device passwords.
Monstrous Abuse Behind Blue Badge
Edwards committed most of his heinous acts while on duty with South Wales Police. He used fake Snapchat profiles, posing as a 14-year-old boy, to groom over 200 girls aged 10 to 16. The depraved officer coerced victims into sending indecent images and blackmailed them with threats to expose photos or hurt their families.
Disturbing Court Revelations
At cardiff/" title="Cardiff" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Cardiff Crown Court, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke revealed the chilling extent of Edwards’s manipulation. Even as victims cried or disclosed self-harm and suicidal thoughts, Edwards pressed on. The judge said, “He groomed his victims, psychologically manipulating them until he had gained control.”
Justice Served Despite Absence
Edwards snubbed the sentencing hearing, but the judge could not force him to attend. She slammed the scale and duration of his crimes, noting the huge number of victims and the horrific nature of the abuse, including countless moving images.
South Wales Police Condemn Abuse, Praise Justice
Assistant Chief Constable Danny Richards stressed there is “no place” for abusers in the force. He confirmed Edwards had passed all vetting checks before joining the force. Despite the damage Edwards caused to South Wales Police’s reputation, Richards praised the swift action that brought the monster to justice.
