A house fire in East London has resulted in five people, including two children, being rushed to the hospital. The incident unfolded on Scotts Road in Leyton, within a mid-terraced house that had been converted into flats. A swift response from emergency services saw the deployment of six fire engines and approximately 40 firefighters to combat the blaze.
The London Fire Brigade reported that the fire had extensively damaged the first-floor flat and the roof of the property. Additionally, the ground-floor flat suffered partial fire-related damage. To gain a better vantage point of the fire, one of the Brigade’s 32-meter ladders was utilized at the scene.
Two individuals managed to exit the property before the arrival of the Brigade, while an additional five people were safely led out of the building by firefighters. They received initial on-site medical attention from the London Ambulance Service before being transported to the hospital.
According to authorities, a total of 16 calls were made to the fire brigade, with the initial call received at 7 a.m. The situation was declared under control by 9:59 a.m. Fire crews from Leyton, Leytonstone Walthamstow, and surrounding fire stations were among those who responded to the scene.
The London Ambulance Service alerted at 6:59 a.m., dispatched a significant response team to the incident. This included four ambulance crews, a medic in a fast response car, an advanced paramedic, a clinical team manager, an incident response officer, and members of their hazardous area response team and tactical response unit.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and further details regarding the condition of those hospitalized are awaited.
