A fierce house fire tore through a mid-terraced house converted into flats on Scotts Road, Leyton, sending five people — including two children — to hospital.
Massive Fire Response as Flames Rip Through Flats
Firefighters scrambled to the scene with six fire engines and around 40 crew members battling the blaze. The London Fire Brigade said the fire heavily damaged the first-floor flat and roof while causing partial damage to the ground-floor flat. A towering 32-metre ladder was rolled out to get the upper hand on the flames.
Rescue Drama: Two Escape, Five Rescued by Firefighters
Two people managed to flee before the firefighters arrived. Another five were safely led out by the crew and given urgent on-site treatment by the London Ambulance Service before being rushed to hospital.
Emergency Services Responded Swiftly to 16 Calls
The first call came through at 7 a.m., with multiple crews from Leyton, Leytonstone, Walthamstow, and nearby stations joining the fight. The blaze was declared under control just before 10 a.m.
The ambulance service sent a huge response team including four ambulance crews, special medics, and tactical units who arrived at 6:59 a.m.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, and the condition of those hospitalised remains unclear.
