A man who blackmailed another individual by threatening to harm his family has been sentenced to jail. Jason Farr, 38, contacted the victim, who was not known to him, at his home in Cambridge on the evening of June 13, 2020. Farr claimed that the victim owed £1100 for a motorbike and proceeded to become verbally abusive. He then escalated the situation by threatening to rape the victim’s wife and harm his children if the debt was not paid.
Following the initial call, Farr contacted the victim once again, leaving a voicemail reiterating the threats. The two had no further contact until November 10, 2020, when the victim spotted Farr outside a Sainsbury’s store in Trumpington. Upon recognising Farr from Facebook, the victim confronted him.
As a result of the investigation, Farr was interviewed and subsequently charged with blackmail. On Tuesday, October 31, at Cambridge Crown Court, Farr, who resides on Holbrook Road in Cambridge, pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 16 months in jail. Additionally, a five-year restraining order against Farr was implemented.
DC Antonio Fernandez, who was involved in the case, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “Jason Farr made aggressive and disturbing threats, so I am delighted he has faced justice. It should also act as a deterrent to anyone thinking of making these types of threats.”
