Blackmailer Jailed for Threatening Family Over £1100 Debt
A Cambridge man who terrorised a stranger by threatening to rape his wife and harm his children over a motorbike debt has been locked up for 16 months.
Threats Over Motorbike Debt
Jason Farr, 38, made a chilling call to the victim at his home in Cambridge on June 13, 2020. Farr falsely claimed the man owed £1100 for a motorbike. When the victim denied it, Farr turned verbally abusive, suddenly threatening brutal attacks on the victim’s wife and children if the debt wasn’t paid.
Face-to-Face Confrontation Ends in Arrest
Farr didn’t stop with just one call. He followed up with a chilling voicemail repeating the threats. Months later, on November 10, 2020, the victim spotted Farr outside a Sainsbury’s in Trumpington and confronted him after recognising him from Facebook.
Justice Served at Cambridge Crown Court
Police arrested Farr and charged him with blackmail. At Cambridge Crown Court on October 31, Farr pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 16 months behind bars. A five-year restraining order was also slapped on him.
“Jason Farr made aggressive and disturbing threats, so I am delighted he has faced justice. It should also act as a deterrent to anyone thinking of making these types of threats,” said DC Antonio Fernandez, who led the investigation.
