Met Police Officer Sacked Over Racist Slur on Train

Racist Remark Sparks Dismissal

PC Luke Hunt of the Met Police’s North East Command has been booted after hurling a shocking racial slur at a colleague. The incident happened last January during a train ride home from a leaving party at Dirty Martini on Liverpool Street.

When told to be quiet by a fellow officer, Hunt snapped back twice with the vile phrase, “shut up black boy.” This outrageous outburst was witnessed by two other officers on board.

Refusing to Apologise Made It Worse

Despite over a month passing, Hunt refused to apologise properly. Claiming it was “inappropriate” to apologise over the phone, he never arranged a face-to-face meeting to make amends with the offended colleague.

He later admitted the slur was a “stupid mistake” and a “bad error of judgment,” asking for a final written warning instead of harsher punishment.

Gross Misconduct Ends Career

The misconduct panel saw things differently. They ruled Hunt’s actions as gross misconduct and handed down the sack. Chief Superintendent Simon Crick slammed the behaviour, saying it was “unacceptable” and damaged public trust in the Met.

He stressed the police force’s strict zero tolerance on racism and underscored the need for high professional standards.

A Warning to All Officers

PC Hunt’s dismissal is a stark reminder that racist behaviour will not be tolerated. It reinforces the importance of respect and diversity within the Met Police and all workplaces.
