Junead Ahmed, formerly of Hutton, has been sentenced to four years in jail for committing fraud using multiple doctor aliases. The sentence was handed down on Thursday, November 16, at Basildon Crown Court, after Ahmed admitted to six charges during a hearing in June.
The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud by false representation, two counts of making or supplying articles for use in fraud, possession of identity documents with intent, and money laundering, all in violation of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
In November 2022, Ahmed began renting a property in Hutton using the name Dr Syed Asad. He provided false documentation claiming to be a GP, stating that he had sufficient funds to pay the monthly rent.
The following month, December 2022, Ahmed attempted to buy a property valued at over £2 million in west Essex, despite having no visible means of support. To falsely prove his ability to pay for the property, Ahmed presented fraudulent bank statements, a passport, and a driving license under the name of another alias, Dr Jacob Adams.
Upon receiving information, the Serious Fraud Team launched an extensive investigation. It was discovered that Ahmed had submitted fraudulent documentation to show proof of earnings and had obtained passports using the doctor aliases as “proof of identity.” Additionally, criminal funds were used to pay the monthly rent.
During the investigation, it was confirmed that Ahmed was not a registered doctor and had never practiced medicine. He had assumed the doctor aliases solely for the purpose of committing fraud. Ahmed had even changed his name by deed poll to his alias doctor names in order to apply for passports and driving licenses to carry out his fraudulent activities.
Following an expedited two-month investigation, Ahmed was charged with six offences and remanded in custody. He appeared at Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court on April 21.
Detective Constable Samantha Howard, the investigating officer from the Serious Fraud Team, emphasised that Essex Police takes fraud reports seriously, particularly when individuals present themselves as medical professionals. She stated that Ahmed showed a complete disregard for the authorities and the judicial system, and the police have applied for a Serious Crime Prevention Order to monitor his future behaviour.
