Tragedy struck in Loddon on November 10, 2023, when Neil McGibbon passed away in the hospital following an assault. In the wake of this devastating incident, Neil’s family has released a heartfelt tribute to honour his memory.
In the statement, his family said “Neil was a cherished son, brother, husband, father, and friend. A proud Scotsman and devoted Celtic fan, he played a significant role in his son’s life, sharing his passion for football and golf. Known for his kindness, happiness, and selflessness, Neil had an extensive network of friends and family both in England, Scotland, and abroad and was universally loved by all who knew him. Throughout his life, he always went above and beyond to help others and lived each day to the fullest”.
They also appeal to anyone who may have information that could assist the ongoing police investigation to come forward.
The incident occurred on Bridge Street, near the Kings Head pub, at around 9.30pm November 10. Neil suffered severe, life-threatening injuries as a result and unfortunately passed away in the hospital on November 13.
Five men in their 20s were arrested on the night of the incident on suspicion of assault (GBH) and were later released on bail. They are scheduled to appear at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre on February 7, 2024. Additionally, a sixth suspect, a man in his 50s, was arrested on November 12 and has also been released on bail, with a court appearance set for February 5, 2024.
The police are urging anyone with information related to this incident, including dash cam or doorbell footage, to contact the Major Investigation Team (MIT) through their online portal or by phone. Furthermore, anonymous tips can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers either by calling 0800 555 111 or submitting information through their online form.
