Paedophile Caught in Sting Set-Up to Meet 15-Year-Old Girl
Joseph Lee, 46, has been locked up for four years after trying to meet a 15-year-old girl for sex – only to be caught red-handed by police. The Durham man didn’t know officers were waiting for him at Framwellgate Moor in a joint operation by the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU) and Durham Constabulary.
Undercover Operation Nails Lee
The sting took place on April 26 last year, with NEROCU detectives teaming up with Durham’s Online Child Abuse Investigator Team. Their combined effort ensured Lee was arrested, stopping him from harming any children in the region.
Silent in Interview, Slammed in Court
During police questioning, Lee refused to explain himself and didn’t plead guilty. But the mountain of evidence collected led to his conviction for arranging or facilitating a child sex offence at Durham Crown Court on October 27.
Four Years Inside Plus Long-Term Orders
Lee was handed a four-year prison sentence along with a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He will also remain on the Sex Offender Register indefinitely, ensuring he is monitored closely.
“This conviction shows the strength of our partnership to protect children from predators,” said Detective Inspector Leonard of NEROCU. “Operation Sentinel will continue to target online child abuse. Anyone affected or with concerns must report it to the police.”
