Jack Anthony Rowland Receives 11-year Sentence For Rape And Assault Offences

Jack Anthony Rowland, 24, of Dorchester, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after being convicted of non-fatal strangulation, criminal damage, assault, and two counts of rape. The sentencing took place at Bournemouth Crown Court on Monday, November 27, 2023.

The first incident unfolded on November 11, 2022, at Rowland’s home address in Dorchester. A young woman, despite expressing her objection, was strangled and raped by Rowland. The second incident occurred between February 17 and February 18, 2023, involving the same victim.

During the second incident, as the victim and the defendant drove from Dorchester to Weymouth, Rowland’s agitation escalated, leading him to kick the victim’s car windscreen. Upon returning to Dorchester, Rowland insisted the victim pull over into a lay-by, where he subjected her to another horrifying assault.

The victim reported the incident to the police at approximately 05:40 on February 18, 2023. Rowland was arrested the following day.

In addition to the 11-year prison term, Rowland has been issued a ten-year restraining order. Florence Winstanley, Investigations Officer of Dorset County CID, commended the victim’s bravery throughout the investigation and court proceedings.

Winstanley stated, “Rowland used violence in both of the incidents, and this kind of abhorrent offending will not be tolerated. We take reports of sexual offences very seriously and are committed to supporting victims, investigating offences, and bringing offenders such as Rowland to justice.”
