Mother’s Heartbreaking Tribute After Teenage Son’s Tragic Car Crash

A heartbroken mother has shared her devastating experience of being “next to my boy as his heart took its last beat” following a horrific three-car crash in Northumberland that claimed the lives of her 15-year-old son and another teenager.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday evening and involved two teenagers losing their lives while three others were hospitalized. Northumbria Police confirmed that Connor Lapworth, 18, was pronounced dead at the crash scene, while Corey Mavin, 15, suffered head injuries and passed away in the hospital.

As the police shared the tragic details on Facebook, Corey’s mother, Lisa Mavin, expressed her profound grief over the loss of her young son. She wrote, “My world is shattered,” and added, “I keep looking into his room expecting to see him there, I thought I heard him cough, his little brother asked if that was his voice he heard.”

Ms Mavin went on to describe the immense pain she’s experiencing, stating, “I’ve never known pain like this… the last time I heard from him was 13.55 pm that day. I feel so guilty… I wish it was me but instead, I lay next to my boy while his heart took its last beat.”

The tragic incident unfolded on the A192 Hartford Bank in Cramlington at approximately 9:30 pm on Friday when a Suzuki Vitara, a Range Rover Evoque, and a Ford Focus collided, just days before Christmas.

The teenagers who lost their lives, as well as the two individuals who suffered serious injuries (a 41-year-old and a 17-year-old), were all travelling in the Suzuki. A 36-year-old woman in the Range Rover sustained serious injuries, while the 52-year-old female driver of the Ford Focus was uninjured.

The families of the teenagers, who were both from Blyth, are receiving support from specialist family liaison officers during this heart-wrenching time, according to the police.

Sergeant Russell Surrey, from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department, expressed condolences and said, “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the two young people who have sadly lost their lives and those who have suffered injuries in this collision. We will offer them all the support they need and ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”

Authorities are now urging witnesses to the incident to come forward and provide any information that could help with the investigation. They are particularly interested in speaking with individuals who may have seen the events leading up to the collision or have information about the three vehicles involved in the area. Dashcam footage from around the time of the incident is also of interest to investigators.

Mr. Surrey emphasized the significance of any information, no matter how small it may seem, in helping to determine exactly what transpired during the tragic crash.
