Speeding Volkswagen Beetle Sparks Dramatic Drug Bust in Petersfield
Two cops on a routine patrol clocked a grey Volkswagen Beetle smashing a 20mph limit in the early hours of Tuesday, 2 May, on the Ridgeway.
Chase and Cash Fallout
The Beetle rolled to a halt at Petersfield Close, but the drama was just beginning. A man bolted from the vehicle, sprinting down a footpath. As one officer gave chase, bank notes started tumbling from the suspect’s pockets.
Drugs and Arrests Follow Hot Pursuit
The runner was caught in a back garden. A search uncovered bundles of white and brown wraps – thought to be heroin and crack cocaine – hidden in his pockets. Officers also found cannabis scattered in the garden and a stash of cash in his coat.
Back at the car, a set of scales was seized, hinting at drug dealing.
Two Arrested; Drug Driving Charge Added
A 37-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were arrested over drug offences. The older man tested positive for cocaine and now faces drug driving charges too.
Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Ferguson said: “This was a great result by two officers on a routine patrol in Top Valley. Heroin and crack cocaine can ruin lives and we will constantly pursue those who deal or bring these drugs into our city and county.”
