A statement from Plymouth’s Winter Wonderland on Facebook read: “Unfortunately, we have taken the very difficult decision to cancel our New Year’s Eve event due to the high winds expected.

Similarly, Barnstaple in Devon called off its New Year’s Eve fireworks display due to gusting winds. Barnstaple Town Centre Management explained, “Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions and the gusting winds, we will be unable to do the fireworks this evening due to safety. We know this is disappointing, but safety is always the priority, and we, unfortunately, can’t control the weather. Wishing everyone a very happy new year – please enjoy safely.
The Met Office’s yellow weather warnings are in effect from 10 am until midnight, raising concerns about the potential impact of the severe weather on the safety of New Year’s Eve celebrations.
As the country navigates these challenging weather conditions, ferry services between Dover and France have experienced delays due to adverse sea conditions. The Port of Dover has warned Eurostar passengers about limited foot passenger availability and advised passengers to confirm their reservations before heading to the port.
