Flood Crisis Worsens Across England

More than 150 flood warnings are hammering parts of England as relentless rain refuses to let up. The Environment Agency has thrown down the gauntlet, urging residents to stay sharp and prepare for ongoing flood risks.

Midlands, Lincolnshire and Thames Hit Hard

The soggy spell and heavy downpours have pushed river levels dangerously high. Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, especially along the River Thames, have seen rising waters over the past day. Meanwhile, puddles have turned into floods in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, causing serious headaches for locals.

Right now, England faces 167 flood warnings and another 175 alerts. Though conditions may ease gradually, slow-responding larger rivers keep the threat alive for the next five days, prolonging the danger to homes and businesses.

Environment Agency Sounds the Alarm

Katharine Smith, Flood Duty Manager at the Environment Agency, warned: “Significant river flooding impacts are still expected today and over the next few days across Oxfordshire, the River Trent near Nottingham, and the River Severn including Gloucester. Our thoughts are with all affected.”

Smith stressed the need for local vigilance. “Check your flood risk regularly and never drive through floodwaters. Follow advice from emergency services to stay safe.”
