Killer Stares Down Police After Fatal Car Ploughing and Stabbing Incident

Double Tragedy in Bedfordshire: Car Rams Crowd, Two Men Killed

A chilling horror unfolded in Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire, in November 2022 when a speeding car slammed into a group of people, killing two men. Now, fresh Channel 4 footage from the police investigation has thrust the brutal event back into the public eye.

Pub Brawl Sparks Deadly Revenge

Anthony Bennison, 25, and Nicholas Papworth, 33, were found guilty of murdering Adam Fanelli, 39, and Patrick Howard, 27. The deadly drama began after Howard and Mason Jordan, 27, celebrated a baby shower at The Chequers Pub. After closing time just past midnight, they moved to The Crown – where Bennison, Papworth, and Mark Griffiths, 41, were also drinking.

A nasty scuffle broke out when Jordan punched Papworth. The punch sparked a fight that ended with both men on the floor. Their friends quickly pulled them apart, and the groups left to head home.

Hunt For Revenge Ends In Murder

Papworth, nursing minor wounds but burning with anger, teamed up with Bennison to track down Howard and Jordan across Houghton Regis streets. Bennison drove his silver BMW, Papworth followed in a black VW Golf. They found their targets – and unleashed horror.

In a terrifying hit-and-run, Bennison stabbed Adam Fanelli to death. Patrick Howard was struck by the car and stabbed as well. Channel 4 aired stark footage showing Papworth’s cold ‘no comment’ replies during police questioning.

Shock and Outrage After Senseless Violence

After the attack, Bennison and Papworth fled the scene. Howard died instantly. Fanelli suffered fatal wounds in front of a nearby home. Jordan survived serious injuries after emergency treatment.

Patrick Howard’s cousin, Holly Howard, slammed Channel 4 for broadcasting the raw scenes of her cousin’s death. She criticised police failings and demanded justice for her family.

Justice Delivered: Guilty Verdicts and Pending Sentences

At Luton Crown Court, Bennison was convicted of both murders. Papworth was found guilty of killing Howard but cleared in Fanelli’s death. Griffiths, once charged with attempted murder and grievous bodily harm, was acquitted during the trial despite prosecution claims he egged on the violence as a passenger in Bennison’s BMW.

Neither Bennison nor Papworth gave evidence during the trial. They remain in custody and await sentencing on August 3. Both face life behind bars, with minimum terms to be set by the judge.

This brutal case leaves deep wounds for the victims’ families and stands as a grim warning on the cost of reckless violence.
